The Requirement.  In 2020 the Royal Air Force College Cranwell went through a major modernisation programme of its officer training. The new approach to officer training is a forward thinking and dynamic shift in the way training is delivered. It offers flexible training paths to students recognising prior experience and qualifications; this allows the RAF to get fully trained officers to the front line quicker and in a more cost effective way, without compromising on the exceptionally high standards it is famous for.

As part of this modernisation programme, the RAF College needed to modernise its digital learning infrastructure and systems from the legacy provision which had served the college for decades. A significant part of this requirement was a next generation training management system that would provide a single integrated solution across all aspects of training analysis, design, delivery and assurance.

A further requirement was that the system must be configurable to meet the stringent compliance needs of the Defence Systems Approach to Training process.

The Solution.  Following a successful government tender, ALaRMS was chosen by the RAF College to manage and deliver the newly adopted ‘Modular Initial Officer Training’. 

ALaRMS offers Cranwell a really agile and configurable system that can be flexed to their exact requirements while maintaining the  foundations needed to meet the Defence Systems Approach to Training standard. 

The core ALaRMS modules (Analysis, Design, Delivery and Assurance), delivered as one integrated solution, will enable all departments within the college to conduct their tasks in one linked environment. This provides efficiencies in time and manpower by automating the sharing of information; providing tools that make core analysis, design, delivery and assurance tasks easier to complete while driving useful data insights.
